Mitigation Planning for Shoreline Permitting
Guemes Channel Public Shoreline Trail, Anacortes, WA

Project Description

Public trail located in Anacortes, WA designed to include the following:
Coordination with the City of Anacortes & WDFW
Constructed on top of an existing railroad bed
Approximately 2,100 feet east from Edwards Way along the shoreline
Planter areas with native trees & shrubs
Proposed future connections:
Marches Point to WA Park
WA State Ferry terminal to downtown

Mitigation

Removal of:
approximately 708 treated railroad ties
approximately 3,629 angular rocks from the nearshore habitat which had migrated from the railroad grade to the beach
invasive species encroaching the shoreline from nearby developments including Himalayan blackberry, English ivy, poison hemlock, & Scotch broom
debris associated with a homeless camp & non authorized public trail use
Replanting 108 native trees & 1,610 native shrubs augmented with local native seeds collected by ATSI
